Under Eye Dark Circles Removal Treatment

Dark circles under the eyes are a significant cosmetic issue. Though harmless, people do not like their appearance, as they impact self-concept and quality of life, making you appear older or tired. Dark circle treatment options include skincare creams, peels, laser, undereye fillers, fat transfer and surgery. There are various causes of dark circles, and often they are of mixed origin. The treatment approach should be customised to the underlying condition, so determining this is critical. Improving the skin texture and quality with skincare is advised as an adjunct to all therapies.

Our Procedures for Dark Circles

Botox

Botox is usually used cosmetically to treat wrinkles and fine lines. The active ingredient temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

Botox is occasionally used off-label to reduce the appearance of under-eye wrinkles, but very rarely injected under the eyes as a standalone treatment.

Botox (Botulinum toxin type A) is a type of drug that’s injected directly into the skin. The primary effect is muscle weakness that can relax the surrounding skin. Overall, Botox is considered an effective treatment for certain types of wrinkles like crow’s feet, frown lines (between eyebrows), rarely for undereye wrinkles.

Filler

  • Under-eye filler can help reduce the appearance of dark circles.
  • Dermal filler can be placed in the cheek area, directly in the tear trough or both. The aim is to replace volume in the lid/cheek junction, and often cheek filler assists in correction.
  • Filler will improve the cosmetic appearance of bags under the eyes

Fractional Laser

Fractional lasers are a suitable option for treating dark circles caused by pigmentation issues, especially in patients with melasma. By improving collagen production, this treatment may also help to mask underlying veins beneath the eyes to improve the appearance of vascular dark circles.

Peel

Chemical Peel is one of the most common and effective treatments for under-eye dark circles. The procedure uses alpha hydroxy acids, for example glycolic acid, that is useful in lightening hyperpigmentation under the eyes.

Q-Switch Laser

Q-switched lasers provide effective results by focusing both light and heat to damage a precise skin area and leave the tissue in the surrounding area undamaged.

If dark circles are due to skin laxity (loose skin), then tightening the area with laser will diminish dark circles. The laser of choice is a Q switch laser. 10 treatments are needed, over 4-5 months. This laser reduces pigmentation and stimulates collagen, reducing the ‘bunching’ of skin in the area.
